Reasons Your Teeth May Not Get Whiter with Treatment

Posted on 8/20/2018 by JJ Perkiomaki
Reasons Your Teeth May Not Get Whiter with TreatmentA 2012 study by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, asked participants what they would most like to improve about their smile.

The most common response was whiter and brighter teeth. The teeth whitening industry has exploded in the past few years and millions of Americans are willing to spend a lot of money purchasing teeth whitening agents that will give them that dazzling smile.

When the results are not what the patient expects, it can be disappointing, and they may be asking themselves what went wrong.

Why Teeth are Discolored

Your tooth composition will affect how pearly white your teeth are. In addition, there are other reasons that will cause your teeth to become discolored, such as the foods you eat or drink, including coffee wine or chocolate. Bad habits such as smoking can also affect the color of your teeth and promote stains.

Teeth can also be discolored from the inside out when the inner portion of the tooth becomes damaged due to several reasons including certain medications or injury.

What to Use for Teeth Whitening?

It can be overwhelming to choose the right teeth whitening product if you go to a grocery store or shop online. But it is extremely important to do your research and choose a product that will work for you safely.

You can find anything from mouthwashes to whitening strips that promise to give you the perfect smile, however, you need to be careful that you are using the right product because some chemicals can damage your teeth and leave spots on them.

You also have the option of doing a controlled tooth whitening in our office with products that are safe to use for your teeth and approved by the American Dental Association. This will ensure you have the best treatment and the results are either what you desire or very close to it.

If you want to have whiter teeth, you can ask us details about our in-house treatment or the best over-the-counter products available to you.
